Great sound. They're able to reach those low frequencies and really growl. However, the clasps do not hold the speakers closely and securely to the ear openings. …read full review

After owning these excellent earphones, I now wonder why Audio Technica can't produce the same audio quality that these units provide. The reason for this comment is the fact that after owning the ATH-EW9 and EM700, which the sound would be too bright amplified. The AL1000 is very neutral overall especially when paired with a good headphone amplifier.
The sound is detailed and full of presence. The soundstage is well presented without any of the harshness provided like with the Audio Technica series of clip-on earphones. Got them about two days ago. I used to have JVC Be! clip-ons, I forget the model number, but they had some fantastic sound. These use smaller drivers for an overall smaller unit than the Be! headphones, and as such are nice and light. Very comfortable on my ears.
