The DX-1000 are headphones for the "basshead" in you who never knew that having such amazing bass quantity and quality could make music listening with cans so funny and enjoyable. They are expensive, but are very comfy, well built and above all, very fun to listen. They're not neutral cans, their bass response from the lowest lows (they play 15Hz and you feel it, I've measured it) up to about 200Hz is increased by 12dB from the response at 1KHz. Above that they roll-off steadily. This makes for a very relaxed sound, warm, yet detailed and clean. Wow! Awesome headphones. They really are big. Big looks, big sound. Must be the world’s biggest wooden headphones. Comfort: Very comfortable but not super comfortable. Fairly thick, soft leather cushions for the ears so that the earlobes don’t touch the vibrating driver (Denon D5000 has even softer leather but there is too little of it, so the ears touch driver and thus make your head vibrate). Headband: OK leather headband but too thin, should have been better cushioned. It’s like the outside of the headband is actually softer than the inside. Oops, JVC. Another great closed headphones. Very smooth and "sweet" sound. Very natural. Piano, vocals, midrange frequencies sound mellow with a real and natural presence. Very delicate, sparkling highs, deep bass. Good sound stage, comfortable to use them for hours. I consider them ideal for classical and Jazz listening. They sound very natural with classic rock too.
