The best pair of closed headphones for casual listening I have ever heard for the money (and probably of open headphones in the price range as well). If you are looking for a relatively low impedance, set of plug-and-play closed cans in this price range (and even 2x the price) look no further. They are great for everything to gaming to listening to music of all types and all sources. Truly the Renaissance Man of closed earphones that won't blow the bank (though when I ordered them they were $189-but I guess these rave reviews aren't targeting them for discount pricing..).
They are not perfect for every application, but if you can only rationalize one pair …read full review

I bought these babys a couple of years ago and I'm glad I did. The bass is mighty and deeep, but a little slow for fusion and math-metal like Dave Weckl, Tribal Tech and Meshuggah. Nevertheless they sound gorgeous with all kinds of music.
Massive Attack's "Teardrop" and "Karmacoma" sounds huge and haunting. Elizabeth Fraser's vocals on "Teardrop" never sounded more ghostly and beautiful than through the A900.
Nora Jones' "Live In New Orleans" is an amazing sounding DVD, and Noras vocals through the Neumann KSM 105 (microphone) have to be one of the greatest sounding live-vocal performances ever! -The A900's rich and crisp treble adds that magical spa …read full review

I bought them like a month ago and was holding back myself with writing review till I'm sure them are "burned in" well enough.
Now I am sure i have the best headphones i could get for that price range. Worth every cent spent on it. For good start funny thing. Usually i listen to music at home, few days ago i went to ride on bike and took my mp3 player with me (decent one). I was really surprised that i cannot stand the sound it makes and put it back into pocket.
First of all - do not believe someone who tells You these headphones has weak bass, maybe when taken straight out of box. Later it is just better and better.
Highs are verrrry clear, crispy... …read full review

These ATH-A900's sound pretty amazing. Although I was not thoroughly impressed when I first plugged them in. The bass was definitely lacking, at first
But I noticed a difference after about 30 minutes burn in. From then on, they just kept getting better and better.
It has a large soundstage, so it's equally amazing for games, as well as general music listening. I love the highs, very sharp.
I have been running this unamped until recently, and it sounded pretty sweet. Amped, it sounds a little bit better.
My original source was plugging directly into a SoundBlaster X-fi. Now it goes X-Fi -_ Amp -_ A900.
The difference is noticeable, but not worth the pr …read full review

I spent hours into days looking for a pair of headphones that met my requirements. I wanted a pair of headphones that I could listen to at home watching DVD's or playing video games. I needed something that would also be able to be taken to work and as such would need to be powered by my iPod. When I found this pair of headphones online I swear I thought they were made for me. Not only do these headphoens have a mere 40 ohm requirement which set me up to play everything I could possibly want with amazing detail at work, but when I come home I can plug these cans into my receiver and lay the smack down on some people playing Halo. Never before has everything …read full review

Sounds nice unamped, even better amped.
Aesthetics/Ergo's
There is abundant cheap plastic on the cans, but the only injection seams are readily visible border the "left" and "right" stickers. The cord is abundantly long and well constructed -- not easily deformed by pressure from textbooks.
"Crappy Pleather Pads," as often cited on head-fi, is a non-issue. Yes, they do "crinkle" when you adjust the cups, and your ears may feel warm after two hours of listening. However, the pads are thick enough so the drivers do not touch your ears, such as in the W1000 and AD2000.

Pro's:
1. Very comfortable, can be worn for hours esp meant for large heads.
2. High quality long chord, you would never have to worry about pulling the chord, you can have it plugged into the music source and walk a couple feet!
3. Can be easily driven of any portable music source, you dont need an amp.
4. Accurate reproduction of the entire frequency range (atleast to my taste) not too bassy for a closed headphone,
Cons:
1. Since there is no clamping force, the headphone sits losely on your head, so you cant do stuff like head banging.
2, There is no much isolation i.e. you can hear people talking around you. …read full review

I would just like to say that the process in receiving the ATH-A900's was the BEST shipping experience I have ever had in my life. The fact that they are imported from Japan made the arrival that much more impressive. They came one day earlier than I expected the earliest they could get to me via UPS (I ordered them on a Saturday and they were at my door, in the middle of a snowstorm, the next Wednesday). The headphones were in mint condition (of course) and now I can't get them off of my head. The price is more than $50 less than any of their competitors, making them the best pair of phones' for the price range. I reccommend these for any one having a hard …read full review

These headphones are really one of a kind. the lows and mids are a tad dull but yet warm and clean. the highs are extremely sharp and on some songs cause me to flinch. both women's voices and slow rock sound very good while hip hop and faster rock become a bit bland. overall they are very nice cans for the money and i wouldn't have gotten any others.
p.s. i don't know if quality control was down for a day or something but the 'right' sticker that is placed on the headphones was rotated 90 degrees out of position and had to be removed and stuck back on. also, there are 4 extremely deep gouges on the left side ear cup leaving streaks of jagged silver in the …read full review

First off, I'd just like to say before these I owned a pair of Sennheiser HD595s. Considering they are around the same price I wasn't expect ing much of an improvement, boy was I wrong. These are so energetic and full of life compared to the HD595s, they'll get your feet tapping for sure. The energetic feel to these headphones aren't overbearing, I can listen for hours and hours without any fatigue.
I've noticed so far that these headphones really are superior with Japanese music. So, if like me you mainly listen to Jpop and Jrock, you'll absolutely adore these. Everything is very well detailed, I heard things in the music I had never heard before, they r …read full review

I have heard many things about the Audio Technicas from friends and always had my doubts because of the pictures showing its monster mass. Nevertheless they turn out to be amazing. They fit well even with a small head and the sound quality is one of a kind. It traps away all other sounds that way their can almost be a Band behind you and still be able to enjoy quality sound. I myself use it for gaming. It brings me right into the game and make me feel as if I am there.
Music also is a huge factor in my life and these headphones allows me not only to hear the bass but the simple things in every piece of music.
I Defiantly recommend these headphones.

I have been using my Audio-Technica ATH-A900 for a month now. From what I hear this is the best sounding head phones I have ever owned. As the other rewievs states the quality from these phones is high end. They look high end, feel high end in any way, sound the same and are very light and comfortable to wear.
I should not say this out loud, but they are also mainly priced USD50 lower than European web shops demand. Upon all this AudioCubes charge a really low fee for shipment. Thank you for a really fine set of head phones which I proudly recommend!

Fantastic headphones, highly recommended. Great, tight bass, and really detailed sound. Sounds like the vocalist is whispering in your ear at times. Or listen to the fingers move across the strings of the acoustic guitar. Really really nice sound.
Very easy to wear too, but could not be described as being portable in any way, they are pretty large headphones.
So good I bought another one for the wife. …read full review
